Boxshot 5.9.1 beta
15 Dec 2025
This update introduces several new capabilities: two fresh shape types, a powerful new tool, and additional enhancements designed to expand what you can create. Read on for details.
New Shapes
There are two new shapes in this update:
- Apparel — you might remember those offered in our “boxshop”, now they are embedded, so you can use them directly. The difference is that now you use decals instead of configuring the built-in logo material;
- Solid — a CAD shape designed to be used with the new tool, see below…
Boolean Operations
Finally! Boxshot has got support for boolean operations, so you can merge shapes and cut one from another. The feature is a bit limited, and although it might work for some of the built-in shapes in Boxshot, the best results are achieved with the “Solid” shape mentioned above. It is built with a real CAD engine under the hood and provides much more predictable results when doing boolean operations.
We are yet to provide tutorials on that (as this is a beta), so you’re on your own for now. We hope to finish the tutorials this or next week, so the “Help” buttons will start working eventually.
Meanwhile, try adding a couple of “Solid” shapes, selecting them all, and then selecting the boolean tool from the right panel.
Yes, Boxshot now displays tools on the right when you select multiple objects. This way, it is easier to perform various operations—like aligning, scattering, booleans, etc.
Page Selection
Finally #2! You can now select a PDF page in texture slots. This is an experimental feature, and your feedback is very welcome.
Other Changes
Besides everything listed above, there’s a bit more:
- Conical Label shape’s initial size has been fixed;
- Caps shape now has improved materials and an automatic height option;
- Embedded textures are now supported for FBX and GLB files;
- Decals improved for complex shapes — there should be fewer artifacts;
- GPU detection on Windows has been improved;
- Slider behavior in the Transformations panel has been fixed;
- Rendering progress reporting has been improved for greater precision;
- SVG files can now be dropped directly into the Loft editor;
- Another model has been added to the Monitor shape;
- Rough materials rendering has been fixed when refraction is disabled;
- Bump has been fixed when the heightmap is tiled and clamped;
- Translucent objects rendering has been improved in the OpenGL preview;
- Shape size limits are now enforced when shapes are fitted to images;
- Mesh optimizers in the embedded model editor have been fixed to take real scale into account;
- Leaves texture wrapping option has been added to books (enabled by default);
- The embedded model editor has been improved to handle hidden meshes better.
This looks like a lot to try — and once again, your feedback is very welcome.
