Boxshot 5.8.3 beta

17 Sep 2024

New tools, shapes, options and some bugfixes in this update. Read on for more details.

New Palletize Tool

The new palletize tool lets you select a shape and clone it to make a pallet–ready stack. Two patterns are supported: row and pinwheel with some other options to configure the stack.

New Physics Tool

The tool lets you run physics simulation for selected shapes, so they can fall and bounce against the rest of the scene.

On top of that you can setup a number of copies to spawn, so if you want to fill something with something, you don’t need to make copies manually.

Keep in mind that simulation of complex scenes might be slow. Hiding unrelated static objects and reducing the level of details of the dynamic ones usually improves performance.

Custom Materials

Finally. You can now drag a material from the right panel to the Assets panel on the left. A window will pop up where you can define a name and group of the material and it will be added to the assets list.

Compared to simple dragging material to a folder, this also copies all the related artwork. You can access the stored data by right–clicking the material and selecting Reveal in Finder/Explorer in the menu.

New Coil Shape

A new Coil shape is added to Simple Shapes section. Besides looking neat it can be used to make threads, especially with the Coil type option that lets you hide inner or outer parts of the coil.

Other Changes

  • Rigid Box shape got Wall thickness option that helps simulating thick paper box covered with a thin paper with artwork;
  • Transition animation got better support of new snapshots;
  • More snapshot features are supported by 3D HTML exporter;
  • Snapshots can now be re–ordered by using the context menu;
  • Camera got automatic mode for znear / zfar, which is enabled by default for new scenes;
  • OpenGL preview better updates sunlight shadow on scene changes;
  • Normals are fixed in Booklet on the Floor shape;
  • Selection processing has been improved for undo/redo operations.
