DataBar Barcode Format
There are several types of DataBar barcodes and Barcode application supports them all. Here is the list:
- GS1 DataBar Omnidirectional
- GS1 DataBar Stacked Omnidirectional
- GS1 DataBar Expanded
- GS1 DataBar Expanded Stacked
- GS1 DataBar Truncated
- GS1 DataBar Limited
- GS1 DataBar Stacked
The first four types are designed for retail point of sale usage, while the rest three are quite small and are mostly used in the healthcare industry. They all encode GTIN-12, GTIN-13 or GTIN-14 data structure, but the Expanded versions can also encode additional GS1 application identifiers of up to 74 characters. Because of that they are usually used for coupons.
For all the GS1 DataBar barcodes, except for the expanded ones, you can enter a 14-digits data string to encode. The expanded version of DataBar barcodes let you make a list of GS1 application identifiers to encode more data. DataBar Expanded Stacked also allows you to select the number of segments used to display.
Other standard DataBar features that are supported by the Barcode software include:
- Adjustable bar widths for printing error compensation;
- Manual and automatic bar height modes;
- Font customization; and
- Customizable front and back colors with spot color support for EPS file export.
You can then export the barcode as a PNG, TIFF or EPS file, or drag it into Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator for further processing. Note that you also can use the command line application interface in order to automate barcode generation.
